I’m interested in male archetypes like “The Warrior” and “The Seducer” and how they are used in pop culture artifacts like advertising, movies and TV to persuade men to buy into fantasies about masculinity.

This is a series of collages that I’ve been doing for the last few months in 2016.

They started as silkscreen prints of a Charles Atlas ad and an Arnold Schwarznegger ad, before he was a movie star. I took two prints, cut one into 2 x 2″ squares and glued them randomly, but in a grid pattern, across the still-in-tact first print. From there I drew on them by hand with coloured conté.

Each is on 18 x 24″ on archival paper.
